Mrs. John Czekala (above) of 1235 S. 21st St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly at her home Wednesday afternoon. She was 78.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. John Landowski will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

The former Catherine Nowak was born in Poland April 12, 1879, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Nowak. She came to the Untied States with her parents, who settled at Manitowoc, at the age of 2 and lived in the city since. She was married May 20, 1902, to John Czekala, and the couple observed its golden wedding anniversary in 1951. Mrs. Czekala was a member of the St. Agnes Society of the church.

Surviving are the husband, four sons, John Jr., of Two Rivers and Victor, Albert and Emil of Manitowoc; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Markowski, Mrs. Frank Masiak and Miss Mathilda Nowak of Manitowoc and Mrs. Emma Dorsey of Long Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Two sons, Anton and Frank, preceded her in death.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday where the Rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m.
