JOHN CZEKALA
(1878 - 1972)
John Czekala, Sr., 93, formerly of 1235 S. 21st St., Manitowoc, died Thursday at St. Mary Home, Manitowoc, where he had resided two years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Thaddeus J. Koszarek will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Czekala was born Aug. 21, 1878, in Poland, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Czekala. He immigrated to America at the age of four years, settling with the family in Sheboygan. He married Catherine Nowak in 1901 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The couple observed its golden wedding anniversary in 1951. His wife preceded him in death in 1957. He was employed at Mirro Aluminum Co., Manitowoc, more than 37 years. He was also employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., during World War II, retiring in 1944. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church Holy Name Society.
Survivors include three sons, John Jr., Victor and Emil, of Manitowoc, a step-sister, Mrs. Helen Krause, of Sheboygan, eight grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Three sons, Anton, Frank and Albert, preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
