Lewis H. Rhodes

Lewis H. Rhodes, son of Willis and Amanda Walker Rhodes was born in Alto Pass, Illinois May 13, 1893 and passed away in the St. Josephs Hospital in St. Charles, MO., August 5, 1976 at the age of 83 years.

Mr. Rhodes was united in marriage to Etta Ethel Hancock in February of 1913 and to this union four daughters and three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta in July of 1954 and also by one son, Lewis Kenneth Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes living in the Wolf Lake area for many years and for the past five years has been residing in St. Charles, Mo. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for fifty years before retiring a few years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Lena of Chester, Illinois; four daughters, Mrs. Katherine Aldridge of St. Louis, Mrs. Kathleen Whitaker of Hazelwood, Mo., Mrs. Lois Schuldt of St. Charles, Mo, and Mrs. June Mears of St. Louis; two sons, Keith Rhodes and Willis J. Rhodes both of St. Charles, Mo.; 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Dover of Wolf Lake; Mrs. Edith Foster of Anna, Mrs. Helen Leird of Largo, Fla., one brother, Luther Rhodes of Wolf Lake; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 7, 1976 at 1:30 pm in the chapel of Norris & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Weber officiating. Interment was in the Alto Pass Cemetery.

Norris & Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lewis H. Rhodes, 83, of St. Louis, formerly of Alto Pass, died Thursday, August 5, 1976, at St. Josephs Hospital in St. Charles, MO.

He worked for the railroad. He was born May 13, 1893, in Alto Pass, to Willis and Amanda Walker Rhodes.
Survivors are his wife Lena of Chester; four daughters, Katherine Aldredge [Aldridge] of St. Louis, Kathleen Whitaker of Hazelwood, Mo., Lois Schuldt of St. Charles, Mo, and June Mears of St. Louis; two sons, Keith and Willis J., both of St. Charles; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Dover of Wolf Lake, Edith Foster of Anna and Helen Lear[Leird] of St. Petersburg, Fla. And a brother Luther of Wolf Lake.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday at the chapel of Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Burial will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
