On February 18, 1947, Valeria Gustmann married the widower Wilbur Jacob Schiefer, the son of Peter Christian Schiefer and Ella Katharina (Graff) Schiefer, at the parsonage of St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Lebanon, St. Clair County, Illinois. The Reverend Paul Surbey performed the double ring ceremony. Elmer Meikamp, brother-in-law of the groom, was the Best Man and Alice (Schiefer) Meikamp, sister of the groom, was the Maid of Honor. After the ceremony, the bridal party was served a wedding supper at the home of the groom's mother, Mrs. Ella Schiefer. The supper was followed by a reception and dance at the Singer Hall in Lebanon, Illinois.
Valeria and Wilbur Schiefer made their home on Wilbur's farm four miles north of Lebanon, Illinois. Valeria became a step-mother to Wilbur's son, Wilbur Henry Schiefer from his first marriage to Francis (Korte) Schiefer who died in 1942. In addition raising little Wilbur, one daughter was born to this new union:

Wilber Schiefer preceded Valeria in death in December 1970.
Valeria Schiefer was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Sportsmans Club, the Senior Citizens Group, and the Emerald Mound Grange of Lebanon, Illinois. She was also a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Lebanon, Illinois.
On December 31, 1994, Valeria O. (Gustmann) Schiefer died at Emerald Gardens Healthcare Center in Lebanon, St. Clair County, Illinois.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 3, 1995 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Lebanon, Illinois, the Reverend Don Wagner officiated. She was buried in College Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, St. Clair County, Illinois.
