Willis Jacob Rhodes, son of Walter Jacob [Jacob R.] and Margaret Rhodes was born in the vicinity of Alto Pass, Illinois, September 28, 1871. He departed from this earth to join his fellowmen in his heavenly home July 16, 1952 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 24 days.
He was united in marriage to Amanda Walker, November 10, 1892 and to this union eight children were born. Those that preceded him in death were Gussie age 5, 1898, Verna in July 29, 1928, Herbert, May 12, 1936 and his wife, Amanda, February 22, 1924.
Mr. Rhodes was a farmer for the greater part of his life in the Beech Grove Community. He accepted his savior in 1903, joined the Beech Grove Baptist Church and was an active member until his health failed.
He leaves to mourn his absence five children; L. H. Rhodes, Chester, Illinois; Luther Rhodes-Wolf Lake, Illinois; Mrs. George Dover, Beech Grove; Mrs. Edith Foster, Elgin, Illinois; Mrs. Helen Leird, Detroit, Michigan. Thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also, two brothers, Jeff Rhodes, Granite City, Albert Rhodes, of Alto Pass, and a dear friend, Andrew Morgan, Wolf Lake.
Mr. Rhodes will be greatly missed by relatives, friends an all who knew him. Funeral services were held at the Beech Grove Baptist Church July 19, 1952. Rev. W. M. Coleman officiating. Interment was in the Alto Pass cemetery. Norris and son were in charge of arrangements.
