CALDWELL — Services for Lela Jo (Schweda) Alford, 77, of Caldwell will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell with the Rev. Dimitrij Colankin and Deacon John Young officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Mrs. Alford died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
She was born April 16, 1926 in Caldwell and was a graduate of Caldwell public schools. She attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Beaumont and the University of Houston. She married Halcut "Hawk" Alford Sr. on March 28, 1948.
A registered nurse and florist, Mrs. Alford and her sister, Alma Schweda, operated Alma's Flower Shop for 40 years. Mrs. Alford was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell, American Legion Post 4458 Ladies Auxiliary and the Texas State Florist Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Anna Rosa (Popek) Schweda; her husband, Halcut "Hawk" Alford Sr.; a daughter, Margaret Ann Alford; and a son, Robert Kenny Alford.
Survivors include a son and daughter-is-law, Hal and Mary Lou Alford of Caldwell; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
