Norman J. Sadler, 67, 312 Milton Ave., 7th Ward supervisor since 1952 and a retired grocer, died unexpectedly Monday evening in Mercy Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital a few hours before his death. Mr. Sadler operated the Spring Brook grocery store for 18 years until disposing of the business in December 1961. He had also operated a grocery store in Milton for seven years and prior to that was an insurance salesman in Fort Atkinson. For two years he was a driver for the Janesville Gazette, retiring in September 1961. For several years he was in charge of supplies for Rock County Civil Defense. Before relocating in Rock County he was a deputy sheriff in Jefferson County and served on the county board four years. A World War I veteran he served two years overseas as an ambulance driver. He was past commander of Milton Junction American Legion and a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born in Janesville May 26, 1897, he was the son of Frank and Isabelle Irwin Sadler. He married Mary Boehm January 5, 1956 in De Kalb, Ill. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Kistler, Waukon, Iowa, and Linda at home; one son, Norman Jr., at home; two stepsons, James and William Purnell, both of Janesville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edward Wagner, Berkley, Ill., and Mrs. Michael Rehberg, Janesville; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Clifford Sadler, Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Rowe, Janesville, and Mrs. Glen Stone, Rockford; two stepsons, Herbert and Basil Weber, both of Janesville. One brother predeceased him. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Pallbearers, all fellow members of the Rock County Board of Supervisors, were Edward Quaerna, Walter Swenson, Charles T. Sanford, Janesville; Clarence Alton and Carl Frederick, Beloit; and W. E. Dalton, Clinton. Rock County officials attended services in a group. Military services at the grave were conducted by Floyd Larson and Elmer Schwichtenberg.
