Mrs. Leo (Irene) Schmidt, 61, of 1217 Flambeau St., Manitowoc, died Friday morning in Holy Family Extended Care Facility, Manitowoc.

Funeral services will be 9:30 am Tuesday in Pfeffer Funeral Home and 10 am in St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Harold Berryman will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Mrs. Schmidt, nee Irene Novak, was born Feb. 14, 1917 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Mary Poklinkowski Novak. She was married to Edward Halpin Nov. 6, 1937 in St. Andrew Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death June 20, 1953. She was married to Leo D. Schmidt July 11, 1959 in St. Mary Catholic church, Manitowoc. Mrs. Schmidt had been employed with Stangels Super Valu Store and was a member of Eagle Auxiliary 706 and St. Mary Rosary and Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Schmidt of Manitowoc; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Colleen Halpin of Garland, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Bast and a sister, Mrs. Martha Toston of Manitowoc and five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Lori, Sandy, Angela and Tammie. Three brothers, Alois, John and Edward and a sister, Josephine, preceded her in death.

Friends may call in Pfeffer Funeral Home 3 pm to 9 pm Monday, where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm by members of St. Mary Rosary and Altar Society and a prayer service will be at 7:30 pm by members of the parish and friends.
