Catherine "Kate" Schlenk, 91 of Rockford passed away on September 24, 2008 in St. Anne Center. Born July 11, 1917 in Rockford, the daughter of James and Ann (Johnson) Lonergan. She was a 1935 graduate of Muldoon High School and a 1938 graduate of Columbus School of Nursing in Chicago. Kate married George J. Schlenk in Rockford in the Cathedral of St. Peter. He predeceased her on February 29, 1964. Kate was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Kate was a very loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Kate is survived by her sons George and James ""Jim" Schlenk. Grandchildren Jimmy (Amy) Schlenk, Jennifer (Troy) Peterson and soon to be born great- grandsons Evan and Troy. Brother William ""Bill" (Ceil) Lonergan, sisters Patricia Taphorn, Peggy (Gerry) Goral, brother-in-law John Provancher and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Tom Lonergan in WWII and sisters Helen Page and Elizabeth Provancher.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m, Monday, September 29, 2008 in the Cathedral of St. Peter. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
