Benjamin G. Riding passed away on October 9, 2013, after a courageous 2 ½ year battle with bile duct cancer. Ben was born on September 14, 1972, in Salt Lake City to Van Riding and Linda Gundersen Riding.

Ben lived in many places growing up, with his favorite being Moab, Utah, where he enjoyed catching lizards and crawdads with his brother, Van, and exploring the beautiful red rock country.

Ben graduated from Delta High School in 1991 and then moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah. He graduated with a B.S. degree in civil engineering in 1997, and accepted a job with WesTech Engineering where he worked for 16 years designing water and wastewater treatment equipment.

It was at the University of Utah that Ben met his wife, Kim, during chemistry class, where they became lab partners. They dated while attending school and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 5, 1997.

Ben is survived by his loving wife, Kim, and 3 adoring sons, Burke, Kade, and Vaughn. He is also survived by his parents, Van (Margaret) Riding and Linda Riding, siblings Van (Karen), Rebecca , Melanie (Phillip), Kenneth (Jessi), John, and Brian, grandfather, David (Jane) Gundersen and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ben loved his family very much and had a strong sense of wanting to provide for them. Even when he wasn't feeling well, he would force himself to go to work for them. He enjoyed spending time with his family hiking, camping, skiing, 4-wheeling, hunting, and playing games of baseball and flag football in the backyard. His favorite family vacations were at the beach, where he loved having fun in the waves of the ocean.

Ben liked to teach his sons various handyman skills – everything from unclogging a plugged drain to pruning the fruit trees to fixing a broken door knob. He also loved grabbing his boys in a bear hug and then wrestling with them.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 15 at 11:00 AM at the Grand View Ward Meetinghouse (5017 W. Grand View Peak Drive) in Riverton. A viewing will be held at Broomhead Funeral Home in Riverton (12590 S. 2200 W.) on Monday, October 14 from 6:30-8:00 PM and on the day of the service from 10:00-10:45 at the Meetinghouse. Interment, Riverton City Cemetery.
