William Russell Goad, 81, of Salem, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013. Mr. Goad is predeceased by his parents, William Sherman and Nancy Cassell Goad; first wife, Alice T. Goad; brother, James Goad; half-brothers, Clyde Cassell and the Rev. Eugene Cassell; sisters, Nancy Goad, Josie McAllister, Louise Cooper, and Alee Goad. Bill was retired from Roanoke City. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as United States Army, Sgt. 1st Class, Military Police. He was a godly man and faithful member of Lamplight Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of many years, Velma Wise Goad; son, Steven Wayne Goad and wife, Laura; grandson, Jonathan Alton Goad and fiance, Taylor Bean; sister, Shelby Barbour; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, in the Valley Chapel with Pastor Jeff Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
