Marie S. Balko, age 89, of 1825 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc, died Friday morning, August 3, 2012 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Marie was born on December 31, 1922 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Migacz) Koneczka. On November 23, 1945 she married Paul J. Balko at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1999. The couple moved to California in 1968. Marie was employed by General Motors Delco Corporation Division both in Milwaukee and in California retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Manitowoc Senior Center and a member of the Senior Center and R.S.V.P. of California. Marie was also a member of the Rosary and Alter Society of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manitowoc.
Survivors include; one step daughter, Judith Zblewski, Manitowoc, one daughter-in-law; Lisa Balko, Neenah, two grandchildren; John Edward Balko and Milan Hollister, eight step grandchildren; Marshall P. (Donna) McCullough, Michael A. (Kristine) McCullough, Michael Cornwell, Daniel (Henrietta) Cornwell, Patricia Malovac, Susie (Cary) Johnson, Doug (Jan) Gueryn, 19 step great grandchildren, one sister; Theresa Cisler, Manitowoc, one brother; Joseph Koneczka, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
Marie was also preceded in death by one son; John Paul Balko, two sisters and two brothers-in-law; Louise Schmidt, Johanna and Clement Sprang, one brother and two sisters-in-law; Sylvester and Leon Koneczka, Elsie Koneczka, one step daughter; Nancy Cornwell.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM on Saturday August 11, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday August 11, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Pleier. Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center and burial of the cremated remains will be held at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manitowoc following the Mass.
