BIOGRAPHY

Nellie was born May 26, 1869, in Green County, Wisconsin to Isaiah H. Lounsbury and Mary Ann Pomeroy. She was the first of seven children.

Nellie's parents left Wisconsin around 1879, settling the family in the Dixon County, Nebraska area for about twenty years.

While in Nebraska, Nellie met Morgan A. Vaughn, a druggist at the time. The two were married July 1, 1886, in Martinsburg, Dixon, Nebraska. They made their first home there, and Nellie taught school during that time.

Together, Morgan and Nellie had nine children; three were born in Nebraska, the rest in Idaho and Nevada:

Ollie F. Vaughn
Victor C. Vaughn
Stella Vaughn
Ida Amelia Vaughn
Edna May Vaughn
Harry Frank Vaughn
Clara Marie Vaughn
Nevada Vaughn
Nellie Vaughn

After considerable time in Nebraska, Morgan and Nellie moved their family to Idaho around 1900. Their first stop was a little town called Neely, where Nellie again taught school. There was also a short stay at Raft River, Cassia, Idaho. They eventually moved to Minidoka, spending approximately ten years there.

Around 1910, the family moved to Caliente, Lincoln, Nevada where Morgan was working as a powder man for the railroad.

Following Morgan's work with the railroad, they moved to Overton, Clark, Nevada. Their eldest daughter, Ollie, who was training to be a teacher at the Albion State Normal School, died of typhoid fever during their time in Nevada.

By the summer of 1912, they were back in Idaho. They lived in Emmett, Gem, Idaho for about three years. Morgan leased a ranch in Montour in 1915.

By the 1920s, Morgan and Nellie were empty-nesters. They moved and lived around the Sweet and Montour, Idaho areas for the rest of their days.

Nellie passed away in her sleep on June 5, 1935, in Ola, Gem, Idaho. She is buried in the Ola Cemetery.
