Harold graduated from Muskegon High School and Muskegon School of Business. He served his country in Company 1 of the 394th Infantry, Regiment of the 99th Infantry, Division of the 1st Army in the "Battle of the Bulge/ Ardennes Offensive". He received a Purple Heart with 2 Bronze Stars, Victory Medal WWII, and Occupation Medal/ Germany. Returning from the war, he became a successful businessman.
He was the owner of Town and Country dba Great Lakes Insurance Agency, Turbo Components, Inc., E & B Auto Sales-Mona Shores Toyota, and many real estate ventures too many to name. His success was due to hard work and perseverance. He enjoyed living on the water in Spring Lake, and his condo in Naples, Florida.
He enjoyed working, and considered it his "hobby". Always, "at the office", as he would always say, "meeting new people" all the time and giving them his advice. He enjoyed boating and cruising around the lake. Harold was a longtime member of Spring Lake Country Club and Cam Club.
Harold is survived by his daughters, Linda Jo Balkema (Ann Hickey), Paula Rae Morse-Bourdon (Thomas), and sons, Ronald W. Morse (Joan), and Stanley Robert Balkema; eight grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Anderson-Morse-Balkema in 2002, and wife, Dolores Epplett-Balkema in 1952; his parents; and two sisters, Marian DeYoung and Bertha Seaver. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends, clients, and his special friend "Jinny".
Service will be held at The Lee Chapel 6291 S. Harvey St. with Rev. Fr. William Langlois officiating. Full military honors will be presented.
