J. Becker, Sr. Dies Sunday At Son's Home
Was A Resident Of The City Of Manitowoc For Nearly A Half Century


An illness of several weeks, coupled with infirmities attendant upon advancing age, yesterday afternoon caused the death of a pioneer, well-known citizen of the city when John Becker, Sr., passed away at the home of his son, John, Jr., at the family home at 2013 Hamilton street. Mr. Becker was 82 years of age and was a resident of this city for nearly half a century.

Born in Poland in 1846, he came to the United States in 1881 and settled in Manitowoc where he raised a family and made his home continuously. He married Miss Celia Matczynski and she died seven years ago.

He is survived by one son, John Becker, well-known business man of the southwest section of the city, three daughters, Mrs. Anton Ziarnik, Mrs. Veronika Pikulek and Mrs. Joseph Stasiek, all of this city. He is also survived by 36 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from the St. Mary's church with the Rev. Father Pociecha officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's cemetery.
