She passed on October 11, after enjoying a lovely day of shopping with her daughter, in Delray Beach, Florida. Her scheduled bridge game that afternoon had to be cancelled.
Described as ageless, selfless, and priceless, she was rumored to be ninety something. She loved her neighbor as herself, and taught her children the love of God. She laughed, and made others laugh. She smiled and made others smile. She never lost her love for the ocean, and was rumored to always have had sand in her shoes. She loved the arts, serving as a UK Museum docent and a founding contributor to the Gateway Regional Arts Center in Mt. Sterling. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Lexington.
She will be lovingly remembered by her identical twin sister, Charlotte Newlin Deupree, her children, Robert Newlin Clay (Blythe), John William Clay (Alice) and Charlotte Clay Buxton (Michael); her grandchildren, Heather Clay Frelinghuysen (Nick), Case Baldwin Clay (Lorin), John William Clay III, Turner Caldwell Clay, Elizabeth Ruth Clay, Alexandra Clay Buxton, Clay Newlin Buxton; and five great-grandchildren, Amelia Clay Frelinghuysen, May Elizabeth Frelinghuysen, Anna Baldwin Clay, James William Clay, and Eleanor Lorraine Clay. A private family service will be held.
Burial will be at Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, contributions will be welcome at the Clay Community Center, 3400 Indian Mound Drive, and the Gateway Regional Arts Center, P.O. Box 128, both in Mt. Sterling.
