"MRS. CAROLINE ZEIGLER DEAD AT AGE OF 89

Mrs. Caroline Berkey Zeigler, one of Altoona's oldest residents and the widow of Michael Zeigler, who died three years ago, died Wednesday evening at 5:40 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Sell, 2605 Seventh avenue. Death was due to infirmities of age and an accident which happened several years ago, when she fell and fractured her hip.

Mrs. Zeigler spent her life mostly in Blair county, the greater portion on the Zeigler farm in Allegheny township, between Duncansville and Cross Keys. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Berkey and was born in Somerset county on June 27, 1835. In September, 1876 she became the wife of Michael Zeigler, prominent Allegheny township farmer.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Gertrude Sell, Mrs. A.C. Penrose, of Sarver, Pa., and Mrs. Emma Beegle, of Scottdale, and three step-children: Edward Zeigler, of Peoria, Ill.; Harry, Homer, Howard and Mrs. Elsie Reed, of this city, and Mrs. Ida Baisor, of Burn's Crossing. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

The funeral cortege will leave the home, 2605 Seventh avenue, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and services will be conducted in the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, in charge of Elder D.B. Mattocks and the Rev. David Lockart, pastor of Grace Reformed church, this city. Interment will be in the Carson Valley cemetery."
