Son of Edward and Ann White Washburn.

Died in Vienna April 2, 1930 in the eighth year of his service as the first Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Austria.

Appointed February 10, 1922

(Note the U.S. Dept. of State Office of the Historian lists his death as April 29,1930 however his stone states it as April 2nd. The Middleborough Gazette, his hometown newspaper, mentioned his death in the April 4th newspaper and the funeral on the 11th. It would appear the U.S. State Dept. is incorrect.)
