Private First Class Powers was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action after capturing a hill and killing five of the enemy southeast of Chunchon, South Korea near "Bunker Hill" on May 18, 1951. His remains were not recovered.
