Charles the son of Scottish immigrants married Lizzie Cliburn 15 May 1881 in Arkansas and shortly after the two of them embarked on the adventure of their lives. The young newlyweds packed their belongings in a covered wagon and headed west. We know they were in Orange Texas on April 15, 1883 where their son, Charles was born. On the second of May in the same year they left Tucumcari, New Mexico with seven head of horses, a cooking outfit, clothing, bedding, mattress and springs fastened on the top of the wagon box. They traveled along the E P & S W Railroad bearing to the southwest. Charles and Lizzie were able to buy bread, fresh eggs and some canned goods from ranches along the way and Charles did find work near Engle for a short time with the Santa Fe working on a water pipe line.
Despite all the hardships the journey continued on to Merced County, California where their second child, Annie Mae was born 18 Mar 1885. Peter is found in 1892 and 1896 on the voter register in Pleyto, Monterey County, CA.
