He was listed as a resident of Helena in the enlistment record, where he was listed as a brick maker on the 1860 census. Civil War records state that he served in the 5th Kansas Cavalry and did not survive the war. His death is listed in the fall of 1863. Adgate was born in Arkansas ca. 1862 and Lauriston Adgate, Jr., was born in Wisconsin ca. 1863. John W. Charitan was listed as the guardian on the pension record. Sarah was a daughter of William & Ann Lapham, both born in England. They are buried in Saint Croix County, Wisconsin. Sarah (nee Lapham) Adgate remarried to J. H. Charitan.
