Jimmie C. Mickey, born January 3, 1935, was called to his heavenly home on October 15, 2013. Beloved husband, father, father-in law, grandfather, brother and son, Jimmie loved life, never met a stranger and shared his gentle warmth with all those around him.

Jimmie graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1954. He proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Army, then started his career at RJ Reynolds where he retired in 1989 after 34 years of service.

Left to cherish his memory is his high school sweetheart, and wife of 55 years, Linda Kreeger Mickey, daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Mike Hayes of Lewisville, son and daughter-in-law Jay and Susie Mickey of Kernersville, grandsons Tyler Hayes of Charlotte, Zachary Hayes and fiancée Kaylee Davis of Hickory/Morganton and Ashton Mickey of Seattle. Also surviving are his mother, Lena Mickey Smith, brothers Mike and Kathy Smith, David and Bonnie Smith and Randall and Beth Smith as well as nephews, Brandon and Eric Smith and a niece, Katie Brown. Jimmie was preceded in death by his stepfather, Gene Smith, as well as his much loved in-laws, Willard and Essie Kreeger.

Jimmie loved his family dearly and cherished the special closeness they shared. He especially loved the quality family time spent together at Lake Norman and time at the cabin in the mountains. His greatest pleasure in life was being "Papaw" to Tyler, Ashton and Zachary. He loved them, guided them, taught them and influenced their lives in the most special of ways.

Jimmie was a long time member of Oak Summit United Methodist Church but after moving to Sherrills Ford in 2001, he and Linda transferred their membership to Rehobeth United Methodist Church where he served on the Finance Committee.

Hayworth Miller, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston- Salem is assisting the family. Visitation will be Thursday evening, October 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Robert Kerr officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
