Joseph Holdgrafer was born Feb. 7, 1876 in Haverhill, Marshall Co., IA. He was the second of nine children born to Henry and Katherine (Goodman) Holdgrafer. His father had immigrated from Germany at the age of three. He grew up in Marshall Co., IA working the family farm.
On May 24, 1898 he was married to Regina Drummer in Marshall Co., IA. They farmed and had seven children. The family eventually moved to Stevens Co., MN where he farmed and was a banker. He passed away June 3, 1947.
He was survived by wife, Regina Holdgrafer of Donnelly, MN; daughters, Theresa McGourty of Sauk Centre, MN, Immaculata Beiser, Emma Dreis, and Rose Mayer all of Stevens Co., MN; sons, Henry Holdgrafer and Joseph Holdgrafer of Morris, MN; sisters, Clara Edel Kopel of Marshall Co., IA, Rosa Holdgrafer, Amelia Stalzer, Mary Stabler, Bertha (Sister Mary Marietta) Holdgrafer; and brother, Charles Holdgrafer of Mower Co., MN.
He was preceded in death by father, Henry Holdgrafer in 1913; mother, Catherine Holdgrafer in 1915; sisters, Agnes Balzer in 1928, Mary Anne Neuroth in 1940, Theresa Friedman in 1908; and an infant brother in 1910.
