MRS. J.J. KNIPP, STOREKEEPER OF 70'S PASSES
Mrs. Antonia Knipp, who with her husband, John J. Knipp, who died in 1918, established a grocery store and saloon on the west side on Marshall street back in 1876, passed away yesterday at the family home, 2009 Marshall street. The deceased has been in failing health for over a year but her condition did not become critical until last Monday.
Funeral services will take place on Monday morning at nine o'clock from the St. Mary's Catholic church.
Mrs. Knipp, whose maiden name was Antonia Ratsack, was born in Germany in 1854 and came to America in the early seventies. She was married to John Knipp in 1873 and three years later, they established the store on Marshall street, which at present is conducted by the son, Andrew. On the death of Mr. Knipp in 1918, Mrs. Knipp continued to conduct the business, until she later turned it over to her son.
One son, Andrew, four sisters, Mrs. Frank Havlinek, Branch; Mrs. Celia Petrowski, Milwaukee; Mrs. Albert Radey, Cato; and Mrs. Frank Brezinsky, city, and six brothers, Frank Ratsack, Cato; Joseph of this city, Anton of Cato, Peter and George of Glen Flora, and Edward of Milwaukee, survive. There are also eight grandchildren.
