Joseph P. Kowalski, 67, weighmaster at the Norris Grain company, died at 8 o'clock this morning at the Hoy Family hospital after a short illness. His residence is at 2115 Hamilton street.
His body has been removed to the Pfeffer funeral home and will lie in state there after 6 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The funeral has been set for 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral parlors and at 9 o'clock a requiem mass in memory of the deceased will be celebrated at St. Mary's church by the Rev. John Landowski. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
Mr. Kowalski was born Mar. 15, 1878 in Kewaunee, and when 18 years of age came to Manitowoc. In 1900 he was united in marriage with Mary O'Konski, who passed away in 1908, and later he was married to Anna O'Konski, sister of his late wife.
She survives with five children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The sons, Bernard, Erwin and Jerome, live in Manitowoc, Cpl. Raymond is on Okinawa. Pvt. Joseph was killed in action last Dec. 2, in Germany.
Mrs. Kowalski was a member of the St. Stanislaus society at St. Mary's church, and members will meet at 7 p.m. Friday to pray for their departed brother.
