OBITUARY :
EUGENE W. "GENE" BARNHART, 70, of Middletown, Md., died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.
Born July 31, 1943, in Laytonsville, Md., he was the son of the late Ernest W. and Evelyn M. Rummel Barnhart.
Gene was a farmer for most of his life in Laytonsville, and he worked for several years for an auto dealership as a mechanic.
He was an avid drag-racing participant and loved cars.
He was a member of AMVETS in Middletown and numerous other clubs in the Frederick area.
He is survived by his loving friends, Charlie and Wanda Brandenburg of Middletown, and Ann and Ron Hedges of Walkersville, Md.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Church Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
