Died at his home in Mineral Point, Thursday morning, May 13, 1920, Mr. Richard Crawford. Born near Enniskillen County Fermanagh, Ireland, Aug. 19, 1846, he came to this country with his parents and two brothers in 1850. They settled in the town of Kendall, Lafayette County where he attended school, his first teacher being the late John Cummings.
Later he attended school in Mineral Point and the Platteville Academy. At the age of seventeen he began the work of a teacher, which he continued for thirty years. An intelligent reader of good literature, always interested in matters of history and good government, he derived much satisfaction from his reading. His last illness lasting more than two years was borne bravely with wonderful Christian patience and resignation. Aman of a kind and gentle nature is at rest.
He is survived by three brothers and a sister. His favorite hymn "The spacious firmament on high" was sung at the funeral which took place on Saturday afternoon from Trinity Church, Rev. Frederic G. Williams officiating. Interment was in the family lot in Graceland.
