The Death of J. E. Davis
The Greenwood Democrat says J. E. Davis, died Sunday, June 25th, at his home in Bonanza, after an illness of more than a year. Mr. Davis' home before he went to Bonanza was at Burnsville, where he lived for about thirty years. He was an excellent man, for many years being a leading spirit in the Methodist Church and taking an active interest in Sunday school work and all that, tended toward the elevation of mankind and led to the betterment of humanity. He leaves a widow and nine children, the latter being M. E. and J. V. Davis, Bonanza; C. W. Davis, Hartford; Mrs. Albert Cleaver, Burnville; Mrs Mattie Long, [this name had a mark on it] Fort Smith; Mrs. Dr. E. B. Jones and Mrs. Ola Hearn, Hartford and Misses Minnie and Pearl Davis, Bonanza.
The remains of Mr. Davis were interred Monday, June 26th at Liberty Cemetery. Rev. Eugene Woodruff conducting the religious services. Masonic services were conducted at the grave by Judge S. T. Rowe.
