COLUMBIA (Special) — Private funeral services for Laney M. Strange, 59, formerly of Columbia, were held at 11 a.m. today at Riser and Son Funeral Home here.

Burial was in Welcome Home Cemetery near Grayson.

Mr. Strange died early Sunday in Veteran's Hospital in Little Rock, Ark., after a long illness. He was retired from the United States Navy.

Survivors include a brother, Joe Strange of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Lou Tullos, Hattiesville, Ark., and Mrs. Mildred Raynard of Grayson.

Laney Strange was a CPO (Chief Petty Officer-Personell, E-7). He served in the United States Navy from August 1926 until July 1956, when he retired from the service. He was awarded the Second Nicaraguan Campaign medal, the Navy Good Conduct medal with 4 reenlistment stars, the American Defense Service medal, the American Campaign medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, and the World War II Victory medal.
