Vernell Joyce Hawthorne of the Dryden Heights Community in Dryden, VA was born in Pennington Gap, VA on Wednesday, October 7, 1942 and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN at the age of 71 years.
She was a retired factory worker and also had worked in the bus station resturant in Pennington Gap. She was also a member of the Valley View Baptist Church in the Dry Branch Community in Pennington Gap.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Virginia Ely.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James Hawthorne of the home. One daughter, Nicole Burns and husband, Richard of Greenville, TX. One grandchild, Triston Lane. One brother, Lawrence Edward Ely and wife, Janie of Indiana. One sister, Anna Ruth Shuler of Dryden, VA. Also five nieces, three nephews, several great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap with Wilford Parsons officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of services Tuesday.
Burial will follow at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA.
Province Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
