John Aldridge married Eliza Hickerson in 1844 at Manchester, Coffee County, TN. By the 1850 census of Maury Co, TN John and Eliza had the following children: Mariah (5), John H (4), Nancy F (2) and Walter (0). By 1853 the family had moved to Bastrop County, TX living a couple of miles west of the town of Bastrop. The 1860 census for Bastrop County, TX shows they have two additional children: Willury (7) and Matty (1).

John Aldridge built a home in Bastrop County that now has a Texas State Historical Marker whereon it is known as the Aldridge-Fitzwilliam House. After John's death in 1860 the home was sold to Capt. Fitzwilliam who named the place "Wexford" after his birthplace in Ireland.
