Earl J. "Paddy" McDonnell

Earl J. "Paddy" McDonnell, age 92, a resident at The Gardens at Felician Village, Manitowoc died on Friday, January 25, 2013 at his residence.

He was born on August 28, 1920, in Manitowoc, son of the late John and Ida (Backhousen) McDonnell. Paddy was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1939, where he was active in sports. He served in the US Air Force with the European Theatre during WWII. On June 22, 1946 Paddy married Viola Hein at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. She preceded him in death on November 12, 1999. Paddy was employed as a mail carrier with the US Postal Service for 31 years retiring in 1978. He was a member of the National Association Of Letter Carriers. Paddy was an avid Packers fan and loved to listen to music.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy and Steve Check, Fox Point, Susan and Mike Ruminski, West Bend; one granddaughter: Jennifer (Bob) Siepler, Oak Creek; three great-grandchildren: Lucy, Steve and Nate; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Harold and Frances McDonnell, James and Nancy McDonnell, Jean McDonnell, all of Manitowoc; one sister: Mary Lettenberger, Port Washington. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by one son: Patrick McDonnell; four brothers: infant Peter, Kenneth, Arnold and Lawrence; one sister-in-law: Dell McDonnell; and one brother-in-law: Earl Lettenberger.

Private funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Dick Klingeisen with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc from 5:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM.

Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family by visiting www.pfefferfuneralhome.com

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
