Mr. Whitt was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Teledyne Brown Engineering after 27 years of service. James was an active volunteer at Huntsville Hospital, a member of the local Toastmasters Club and an avid runner/tri-athlete. Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Whitt; daughter, Pat Legg and her husband, Mike; grandson, Chris Legg; and daughter, Meshelle and her husband, Jeff Laurent, all of Huntsville. He is also survived by his sisters, Helen Renfroe of Toney, Mary Rousseau of Burnsville, Minn., and Rebecca Sanderlin of Waverly, Tenn.; and brothers, Bobby Whitt of Ardmore, Tenn., and George Whitt of Cary, N.C. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
