Betty Jo Barnes Lewis, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville after a brief illness.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents Vegie McMahan Garver and Bruce Barnes, brothers James Johnson, Donald Ray Johnson, A. B. Barnes, and Eulas "Chud" Barnes, and sister Rebecca Johnson.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 60 years Charles Lewis of the home. She dearly loved her five children: Jimmy (Jennifer) Lewis, Johnny Lewis (Sandy Marshall), Janet (Tim) Thompson, Jackie Lindsey, and Jerry (Lynn) Lewis. She will be missed by her five grandchildren: Shannon Thompson, Shelley Campbell, Sheena Santana, Matthew Lewis, and Elizabeth Watt and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother Larry Johnson and two sisters Patsy Ottinger and Vivian Shults. She had many friends in Newport and also in Sevierville, where she spent her later years, including her very dear friend and neighbor, Miss Sunday.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, from 5:00—7:00 p.m. at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Lewis and Pastor Kris Brady officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Union Cemetery for the 10:00 a.m. interment.
