William "Bill" E. Vandegraft, 75, of Hudson died at 4:07 a.m. Friday (Sept. 13, 2002) at his home.

He was born on Feb. 2, 1927, in Hudson, a son of Adam Vandegraft and Bertha Shelby Vandegraft-Abrams. They preceded him in death. He married Yvonne Johnson on July 28, 1951, in Hudson. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Vicky (John) Brown, Hudson; a son, Rick (Wanda) Vandegraft, Normal; six grandchildren, Traci (Flint) DeWitt, Ryan (Stephanie) Brown, Adam Vandegraft, Kiel Vandegraft, Alex Vandegraft and Kelly Dillman and four great-grandchildren, Devin DeWitt, Danielle DeWitt, Stephanie Wyatt and Madilyn Brown.

He was a retired self employed painting contractor.

He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of Towanda, and the American Legion. He served his country with the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1944-1945 and the U.S. Army from 1951-1954, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

He was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. They will always cherish the extra months that God allowed him to stay with them.
