Mr. Atkinson was born in Sterling City, Texas to Alton and Flora Lee Stratham Atkinson. He was raised and attended school in Sterling City. He later joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country as a sharpshooter.Curtis married Betty Louise Baldock on February 12, 1965 in Big Spring, Texas. They moved to the Brownwood area in 1991. Curtis was baptized as a child of God on Easter Sunday in 1998. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bangs, Texas. He was a talented carpenter who worked for the City of Coleman and the Martin Brick Company.

Mr. Atkinson passed away at his home in Brownwood, Texas surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife; two daughters; two sons; three sisters; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
