OBITUARY (Santa Paula Times, Apr. 10, 1996)

E.M. (Cord) Beckerdite passed away on April 7, 1996, at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Hazel Beckerdite, as well as his son, Kent Beckerdite, and his wife Carol, and grandchildren Brian and Jennifer Davis.

Cord was born in Elkland, Missouri on September 12, 1913. He is surived also by his two sisters, Vinnie Lane of Eldon, Missouri and Grace Lowder of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Other survivors include nephews Stanley and Dale Lowder of Tulsa, and three nieces, Lane Hushen, Beth Steel and Janice Johnson, as well as many cousins.

Cord and Hazel came to San Diego in 1941 where he worked in the Aircraft industry. In 1945 they moved to Santa Paula and he began working for Texaco Oil Co. He worked there for 32 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Santa Paula and served as a board member for many years. Cord was a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 10, at 1:00 p.m. at Pierce Brothers-Stetler Mortuary, 128 S. Eighth Street in Santa Paula. Services will be conducted by the Reverand Donald Sturm of Santa Paula First Baptist Church.

Visitation is from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at Pierce Brothers-Stetler Mortuary.

EXCERPT FROM HAZEL'S OBITUARY:
Cord and Hazel met "when they were teenagers in Missouri, as she picked berries from his parents' farm. Love was beginning to blossom, but the final harvest of marriage was several years later. They were happily married for 58 years."
