U.S. Congressman. He was a successful salesman for an oil company, (1891-1900) and during the Spanish-American War, he served as a Second Lieutenant in Company C, 4th Infantry, United States Volunteers. After his military service, he engaged in merchandising and agricultural pursuits. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1904-05), served as clerk of the court of Powell County, (1906-10) and was a member of the Kentucky State Board of Agriculture, (1926-28). In 1929, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-first Congress, serving until 1931. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his former business interest until his death at age 65.
