US Congressman. Born near Cambridge, Maryland, Winder Laird Henry was the son of Congressman Daniel Maynadier Henry the great-grandson of Governor Charles Goldsborough, and the great-grandson of US Senator Robert Henry Goldsborough V. He attended the local schools, and began his life as a merchant. Later, he purchased an interest in the local newspaper, "The Cambridge Chronicle," and became its editor. In 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives to fill the remaining term ofRobert F. Brattan, and served from November 6, 1894 until March 3, 1895. Henry opted not to seek the renomination. Upon leaving office he continued his newspaper work, and also studied law. He was accepted into the Bar in 1898, and engaged in private practice in Cambridge. He held several offices after leaving Congress, including Maryland Land Office Commissioner, Chief Judge of the First Circuit Court, and a member of the Maryland Public Service Commission.
