Louis Russell 'Russ' Best, of Hood River died Monday, March 9, 1998 at the Hood River Care Center. He was 76.

Mr. Best was born March 31, 1921, in Keene, Kan., to Thomas Lee and Charlotte (Holms) Best. He grew up and attended schools in Kansas. As a young man, Mr. Best moved to Hood River.

He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II, being stationed in Hawaii. After the war, he returned to Hood River, married, and began his plumbing career with Edington Plumbing and Heating. Later he was employed with the Westside Ice Fountain, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Best had resided for the past two years at the Hood River Care Center. He was a member of Hood River Elks Lodge No. 1507, a volunteer at Westside Fire Department, and a member of American Legion Post No 22. Mrs Best enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by . . . his former wife Irene Best of Hood River; brother Herman Best of Selah, Wash,; sisters Lois Sauer of Vancouver, Wash., and Ethel Pollock of Portland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funderal services will be held Thursday, March 12, at 10am at Anderson Funeral Home. The Rev. John Ihle will officiate with participation by Hood River American Legion Post No. 22. Concluding services and interment will follow at Idlewild Cemetery in Hood River.
