Senora Augusta Jones was born 1843 in Edgecombe County, daughter of Calvin Jones & Mary Emma Staton.

On May 1, 1866 she married (1st) to CAPT. FRANCIS MARION CHARLES, CSA of Elizabeth City, Pasquotank Co, NC, who had served in the Civil War in Company B, NC 17th Regiment. The couple farmed in Lower Conetoe where they became parents of 3 known surviving children:

* John William Charles (1867-1946)
* Mary Charles DAWSON (1868-1953)
* Addie Charles WILSON (ca. 1870)

Senora was widowed in 1883 when her husband of 17 years passed at age 53. Two years later on January 29, 1885 she married her cousin, FERNANDO B. STATON, CSA (b. ca. 1839), who had served in Company I, 15th Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. She and Fernando continued to live in Conetoe until 1920, at which time they were living with her married daughter, Mary Dawson; and she was widowed a second time sometime after that.

Senora Jones Charles Staton died in 1930 at age 87.

As for her children, John Williams Charles married Annie Howard Meyers of Washington, Beaufort County, by whom 4 known children were born; and resided there until his death. Mary became the 2nd wife of Nathan Becton Dawson (1851-1923)and survived him by 30 years, passing in 1953 at age 85. Daughter Addie married Claude Wilson of Virginia and was mother to 5 known children; living in Tarboro and Kinston, where she was last found in 1930.
