Allan was an assistant professor of music at Union College in Barbourville KY for many years.

He retired in 1999 and he and his wife Virginia (Ginny) moved to Maryland where they spent the next 10 years doing genealogical research, church activities, and historical conservation work.

Allan was very generous with his time. During his retirement he also played viola with the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and gave private music instruction in his home until his health failed in 2008.

I had the honour of taking violin lessons from him many years ago. He was a great teacher and a fine man.

He is missed by anyone who knew him.

His ashes are interred in the wall at the boundary of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Princess Anne, Md.

Sources: Dave Dougherty and Virginia Green.
