Published in The Paducah Sun, Paducah, McCracken Co, Ky., 13 Nov 2000 - FULTON, Ky.--Ward "Butch" Burnette, 59, of Fulton died Saturday in Bowling Green. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Mr. Burnette, a native of Fulton, was a retired farmer. He also served as a state representative for 12 years and as Kentucky's commissioner of agriculture. He was president of National Pork Producers and Southern Association of the Department of Agriculture. He also served as chairman of the Kentucky Task Force on Tobacco and vice chairman of Kentucky House Agriculture Committee. He was recognized as Outstanding Young Farmer for the state of Kentucky in 1974 and was a recipient of the Outstanding Service Award in 1976 from Kentucky State Chamber of Commerce and the Outstanding Community Service Award in 1978 from Fulton County. He was a member of Union Church and a 25-year member of Kentucky Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Frances Marie Hardy Burnette; a son, Jeffrey Ward Burnette; a daughter, Connie Frances Burnette Oneal; a brother, Larry Don Burnette; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. His parents were Naylor Ward Burnette and Mary Kay Watkins Burnette.
