STAYTON - Marjorie A. Smalley, age 95, journeyed to heaven Wednesday, June 19, 2013. "Marge" was born in Wilmington, CA in 1918 to Clara Willis and Grover Cleveland Ablutz. Marge graduated from UCLA in 1942 and became a teacher and homemaker.

She married Franklin W. Smalley in 1943 in Wilmington, CA. They moved many times within Southern California but Oregon was always dear to them. Upon Frank's retirement in 1978, they moved to Gates, Oregon. One of their passions was to travel to distant parts of the world via freighter ship which they did eight times!

Marge was a master knitter, needlepointer, cook and gardener. She loved family, valued friendships, and always wanted to extend a helping hand. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mill City and P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter EU of Stayton, Oregon.

Marge moved to Lakeside Assisted Living in Stayton, Oregon in 2005 to be closer to family. She always appreciated the loving staff and residents at Lakeside.

Survivors include her 3 daughters, Joanne Schouw (Dick) of Gulfport, MS; Elaine Hansen (Curtis) of Gates, OR; Kathy Montes (Felipe) of Castaic, CA and nephew Michael Ablutz (Chris) of Portland, OR; 7 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1995, brother Raymond Ablutz and Sister Dorthea Andreasen, Granddaughter, Darcy Schouw and Great Granddaughter, Josie Hansen.

Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Private entombment will be at Mt. Crest Abbey Mausoleum with a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church in Mill City (date and time to be announced). Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Mill City, the Mill City-Gates Community Assistance Center or a Charity of donor's choice.
