Vincent was the son of Eleanor A. DiNardo and step-son of Dominic A. DiNardo of Paterson NJ, the son of Vincent J. Gabriel who pre-deceased his son. Vincent enlisted in the US Marine Corps on November 3 1965 in New York City, NY and served with HQ Company, 3d Battalion, 12th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
On May 21 the Dong Ha 3d Division CP (Command Post) in Quang Tri Province was hit by enemy mortar fire and two Marines were wounded. Evacuated to the USN Hospital Ship the USS Repose, PFC Gabriel died the following day as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds.
