Sister Mary Carl was born in Vandalia, the daughter of Charles Joseph and Marie C. Wiss Marty . In 1927 she entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters and pronounced her vows in 1930. She earned a bachelor of science in pharmacy and in medical technology. From 1941-46 she taught chemistry and was prefect of boarders at Sacred Heart Academy. From 1946-63 she served as pharmacist and laboratory supervisor at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss. She taught for two years at Routt High School. In 1971 she was elected to the General Council of the Springfield Dominicans, serving as hospital consultant for the congregation and developing a health program for the entire community of sisters. In 1991 she retired to Sacred Heart Convent.
