Charles Frank Ackerman, 97, of Hendersonville died Thursday October 24, 2013 at Pardee Hospital.

Mr. Ackerman was born May 27, 1916 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Charles Ackerman, Sr. and Lena Hoffman Ackerman.

He attended grammar school, high school, and Parks Automotive School in New Jersey. He entered the US Army in June 1941 and served during WW II until January 9, 1947. Mr. Ackerman joined the US Postal Service in 1949 and served as a letter carrier until December 1972.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ackerman was preceded in death by his wife Edith Newkirk Ackerman, his daughter Lisa Newkirk Ackerman, a sister Helen Ackerman and an infant brother Frank Ackerman.

A Service with military rites will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday October 30,2013 from the Chapel at NC State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, Fr. Robert Williams officiating.
