The 1850 census revealed Joseph was a farmer. Their property was valued at $600 in Florence, Williams Co, Ohio. Joseph was born in Pennsylvania and Mary was born in Ohio. Household members: Joseph Vanbuskirk (35), Mary Vanbuskirk (31), Emeline Vanbuskirk (10), George Vanbuskirk (8), Ann Vanbuskirk (6), Ancken Vanbuskirk (4) and Simon Vanbuskirk (1).

The 1860 census revealed household members: Joseph Vanvasish (43), Mary Vanvasish (46), Emeline Vanvasish (19), George Vanvasish (17), Ann Vanvasish (15), Simeon Vanvasish (12), Leander Vanvasish (8), Thomas Vanvasish (4) and Leroy E Vanvasish (1).

The 1870 census revealed their property was valued at $6,000.
