Harold was the son of Percival (Percy) H. Smith and Ruth E. Drake. He married Rhea Van Doren.

The following obituary appeared in the Asbury Park Press, Asbury Park, NJ, 10 July 2008:

Harold Percival Smith, Ford Motor Co. retiree

EAST MILLSTONE - Harold Percival Smith, 86, died Monday, (July 7, 2008) at home. Born Dec. 26, 1921, in Bound Brook, he was the son of Percival H. and Ruth Drake Smith. He had resided in East Millstone most of his life.

Mr. Smith was a line inspector for the Ford Motor Co., Edison, for 38 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He saw action in Italy and the Rhineland, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters.

He was a 54-year life member of the Millstone Valley Fire Department, where he had served for many years as a trustee. He was a member of the NJ Exempt Fireman's Association. He enjoyed restoring vintage Ford Mustangs in his spare time. He was a longtime member of the East Millstone United Methodist Church.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by his wife, Rhea Van Doren Smith, who died Nov. 22, 1993.

He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Lee Smith of East Millstone, Kathy A. McGovern of Bricktown and Debbie S. Melnyczuk of Wichita, Kans.; his sister, Marion Boekhout of Franklin Park; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the East Millstone United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, East Millstone. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hagan-Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Millstone Valley Fire Department, or the East Millstone United Methodist Church, both in East Millstone, NJ 08875.
