Agatha H. Olson, age 90, a resident of the Gardens at Felician Village, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Next Step Rehabilitation at St. Mary's Nursing Home.

Agatha was born on July 31, 1921 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late William Vosburg and Mabel Ahrens Vosburg Scherer. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1939. On July 10, 1942 she married John E. Olson in Manistee, MI. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1991. Agatha enjoyed singing with her sister Dorothy and her mother Mabel at church and social functions. She was a charter member of the Manitowoc Chamber Choir under the direction of Susanna Maria Schaus from 1980 until 2004. Agatha also studied at the Studio of Music under Susanna. She was a regular with Susanna's other students as they shared their music with the residents of local nursing homes, assisted living facilities, with shut-ins and schools, especially at Christmastime. Agatha was a soloist and choir member at Wesley Methodist Church for many years.

She didn't get her driver's license until her later years, but that didn't stop her from getting around. She just gathered her stuff in her bicycle basket and did her errands that way. Those years of exercise kept her slim and in good health. You'd never see Agatha any way but perfect. Perfect hair, perfect makeup, clothes and accessories - it was important to her to make a good impression. Her home was always spotless and she made it a point to have great meals prepared for her family. For more years than she wanted to think about, she packed up and spent the weekends at "The Cottage" on English Lake - from spring to fall. It wasn't her favorite thing, but she kept the peace by giving up her weekends for her family - and besides, she knew she had the whole week to herself because Jack worked out of town and was gone during the week.

Second only to her family, Agatha's love was her music. She was a member of the Monday Music Club and maintained the friendships she made there throughout her life, these women being among her very best friends to this day. Whenever she traveled with Jack, her music brought her ready friendships as she always looked for ways to share her talents in a new town. Even though "The Cottage", wherever it was, was Jack's love, Agatha would make the best of it. She did enjoy the summers they spent in Door County at Clark Lake. She especially enjoyed the times her children and their families joined her for the weekend.

When Tom and Jolene took over the Clark Lake Cottage, she continued to enjoy her summer weekends with them. She was very grateful to Tom for the years he drove from Appleton to pick her up on Friday and bring her back home on Sunday after she was no longer able to drive herself. For many years, they included her in their annual spring trips "south" and the pictures, upon their return, always showed their extended family having a wonderful time together. She stayed current with local and world news and had opinions on most things. She loved to chat and always had something to add to a conversation.

Her grandchildren - Alex & Stuart and Erin & Megan - were a great source of pride for her - and now her great grandson Finian only made it all better. She was very proud of them all, interested in their activities, and proud of their accomplishments.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: James W. and Claire Olson, Manitowoc, Thomas G. and Jolene Olson, Appleton; four grandchildren: Alex (Justine) Olson, Manitowoc, Petty Officer 3rd Class Stuart Olson, Portland, OR, Erin (Sean) O'Neill, Madison, Megan Olson, Chicago; one great grandson: Finian Thomas O'Neill. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by one sister: Dorothy Kiel; and one brother: William Vosburg.

Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Thomas Dunham. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends following the service on Sunday, April 22, 2012 in the fellowship hall of the church.
